Hello, hi it’s been a while but I’m back at blogging. Bear with me, while I make some changes to enhance this here BlackDot Blog and FEED YOUR MINDS with wonder from the world out there. Welcome back.
First up, something super-practical surprisingly. I’m totally into product you can actually use rather than an object used just to make pretty – but rest assured that plenty decorative objects of beauty will still be much mentioned here in the future. In returning to London from 6 weeks in the land of the sun, I discovered my Whitechapel based studio space to be a tad chilly and went in search of how to best curtain many square metres on a budget and without a trip in disguise to IKEA.
Obviously, I’m not short on the fabric side of things – piles and piles of vintage fabrics, Indonesian batik, Dutch wax resist and Indian block prints abound in true hoarder style here….but how the hell to hang them? Efficiently, aesthetically and so they lavishly touch and drop all over the floor (see red curtain pic above). Step in Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and their Ready Made Curtain for Kvadrat. Their DIY hanging system can be adapted to fit any window or space you wish to partition (as i do) and comes complete with hanging cord, wall fixings, pegs and a choice of woven and non woven Kvadrat curtains, the latter of which I’m not so in need of. However, this does not negate the basic cool of this straightforward and do-it-yourself system that has truly solved my pressing curtain problem. Hoorah.
The Bouroullec brothers “wanted to create a very accessible piece, almost as easy and quick to install as putting a poster on the wall. We hate the technical aspect of curtain dressing.” Who doesn’t right? The accompanying photos ensure its easy as pie to DIY, and the peg fittings are perfect for the fact that they are neither too technical or rustic in their aesthetics. Looks like the Ready Made Curtain is bound to be another sure-fire hit for the talented Bouroullec boys and same for homeowners, business operators and chilly studio lodgers alike. 😉
Images from Kvadrat with thanks.
Had to throw in a photo of me lounging in a favourite chair – part of the Quilt series, my first Bouroullec brothers sure-fire hit find, at Salone del Mobile 2009 (Milan Design Fair) designed for Established & Sons.
So weird I was just looking at these yesterday on Remodelista and then you blogged about them! http://remodelista.com/posts/instant-curtains-by-the-genius-bouroullec-brothers. Such a great simple solution xo
